Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works for NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She joined NBC News Washington two years after that as an general reporter. 1981 was the year she began reporting on the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional correspondent. She was made Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was on a panel for the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of notable stories, including the Iran Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, and the arms control. Mitchell travelled together with President Ronald Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss issues such as that of the Iran Contra controversy.
